🔗 Share this article The Battle Royale's Niche Movement Mechanics Become Widely Accessible This Season Respawn Entertainment have a special treat in store for the popular battle royale players, perfectly timed for the holidays. Fans of the battle royale's highly fluid movement will be pleased to discover that an innovative traversal feature will be introduced when Season 27: Amped launches on November 4th. Introducing The Mantle Boost Named "Mantle Boosting" by Respawn, this feature provides gamers a surge of propulsion when scaling obstacles. According to key developer the design lead, Mantle Boosting has unofficially been a feature of Apex Legends for quite a while, usually referred to as "ledge boosting." But it's no easy feat for casual gamers, and typically employed by pro gamers in Ranked Mode or esports competitions. In this update, Respawn simplifies the process for everyone to execute these tricky speed-boosts. "Mantle Boosts existed in the game for some time, but the movement isn't easy to pull off and a player might not realize it's possible without external guides," the designer explains. "We're adding a Mantle Boost indicator so users can easily see when and how to trigger the high-octane movement ability, making accessible the feature and adding fresh strategies to compete for a much wider base." Why Opening Up Advanced Mechanics What's the reason for making a once niche technique accessible to everyone? Principal designer Josh Mohan says the team wants players to feel powerful — even those who are new. "Our community is doing other crazy stuff like super-glides and tap-strafes, and we examined at our competition, looked at what the community execute, and we said, 'How can we provide these capabilities to a broader audience?'" the designer clarifies. "Since currently, some of these techniques are somewhat awkward to use — you need to change controls and hit precise timings. So we said, 'What if we create a polished version?'" The Amped Update Emphasis on Mobility Mobility is largely the name of the game in this season, with characters the gravity mage, Rampart, and the aerial combatant all getting buffs to maintain them in motion. Recovery time on her tactical ability has been decreased, and the Gravity Lift will boost users upward much quicker than it used to. Rampart's Amped Cover feature a roof and capability to grant speed boosts to allies in range. However the spotlight is on aerial this Legend receiving significant improvements this season, with various adjustments applied to enhance her as more potent, faster, and deadlier. "I think there's quite a consensus that her moment has arrived," says character developer the designer. "There's no doubt she was dominant in the past, but with the introduction of other characters, mobility perks, and redeployment tools, it seemed like she's not very relevant in today's the game. It was a really great opportunity for the team to revisit multiple elements [of her kit] and essentially restore her to her glory days." Enhancements to the Aerial Legend To restore Valkyrie's relevance in the game's meta, the developer notes the team assessed each of her abilities and introduced some powerful modifications. Her VTOL Jets received improvements, boosting her speed while airborne, and this equipment now recharge much quicker, allowing her to spend more time aloft. She can no longer be harmed from her ultimate ability, which has also been upgraded to tag opponents who are hit from it. Her Skyward Dive skill — which launches her entire squad skyward for repositioning or retreat — now takes reduced delay to fire up. She's also getting some new Legend Upgrades that players can choose to reduce fuel consumption, expand the spread of her rockets, or further speed up her Skyward Dive takeoff time. "Valkyrie's equipment fulfills that jet-fighter fantasy," Holstead comments. Olympus Improvements Even the game's only floating arena, this location, receives a movement-friendly overhaul, with major changes that expands choke points and renders claiming the high ground a bit less daunting. The developers state the game this update focuses on providing gamers the tools they need to compete in the competition. "Really, we examined the game's fundamental nature as a fast-paced FPS," explains lead Legend designer the lead. The battle royale the Amped season launches Nov. 4 at the specified times.
