World number one Aryna Sabalenka has been selected the Women's Tennis Association player of the year for a second straight year. The 27-year-old secured four titles – the highest tally on the circuit – including retaining the US Open this past September versus Amanda Anisimova to secure her fourth Grand Slam singles championship. A Season of Consistency Throughout the year, Sabalenka played in a tour-best nine finals, with defeats coming against Madison Keys in the Australian Open final at the start of the year and Coco Gauff in June's French Open final. The star player also claimed victory at the Brisbane International early in the season, the Miami Open in March, and the Madrid Open as the clay season progressed. She spent the whole season as the top-ranked player, concluding 2025 on top of the rankings for a second straight year. In July, she achieved the status of being the first athlete to exceed 12,000 WTA ranking points since Serena Williams in 2015. Historic Numbers Sabalenka finished the season with a sixty-three to twelve win-loss record, and collected a record eleven million pounds in prize money. She received almost 80% of the votes cast by global tennis journalists. Later this month, she is poised to compete against 2022 Wimbledon runner-up Nick Kyrgios in a high-profile mixed-gender exhibition match in a bid to "raise women's tennis to a new level". Additional WTA Award Recipients Returning Star of the Year: Switzerland's Belinda Bencic, twenty-eight, received the award after taking a 13-month break following the arrival of her first child and returning to the sport earlier this season. Fresh Face of the Year: Canadian 19-year-old Victoria Mboko received the award after beginning the season ranked outside the world's top 300 and climbing to the eighteenth spot.
