Flight operations have restarted at Scotland's primary international airport after a major technical issue at the control tower brought the international hub to a standstill.

All incoming and outgoing flights were stopped due to an systems problem that arose around 08:30.

A number of travelers were left waiting in planes on the runway as the outage continued.

Services Recommence with Residual Impact

The airport confirmed at 10:40 that operations had restarted, and expressed gratitude to passengers for their "cooperation and patience".

However, considerable delays are anticipated to affect schedules. Flights to key destinations like Amsterdam, Frankfurt, London, and Bristol have been called off, with many others subject to postponements.

Officials had earlier anticipated that 27 departures and 11 arrivals could be impacted.

"Flyers are asked to check directly with their airline for the most up-to-date details on their specific flights," was the consistent advice.

Root of the Disruption

Officials linked the full ground stop to an systems failure with its control tower systems vendor.

Travelers should still plan to verify the schedule of their flight before heading to the terminal as backlogs are worked through.
