Manchester United Poised to Sign Germany Striker Lea Schüller from Bayern Munich

Manchester United are on the verge of completing the signing for prolific German striker Lea Schüller in a permanent move away from Bayern Munich.

A Marquee Acquisition for United

The forward, with six months left on her contract, has been a prolific goal-getter for both club and country. She has netted over 100 goals for Bayern and scored 54 times in 82 caps for her country. This signing is viewed as a marquee signing for the Women’s Super League team.

Departure from Bayern was expected since she appeared to be fighting back tears while thanking the German club’s fans after a win over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

It was reported in December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its leading forwards. Per reports, all the paperwork for the transfer have now been completed.

Reliable Goal Threat to Boost the Forward Line

The experienced striker's arrival is expected to provide a significant boost to the team's attacking options. Schüller has been highly consistent with her finishing in the Bundesliga.

  • Over seven consecutive seasons, up to and including the most recent campaign, she achieved at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She won the top scorer award in 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Gathering Steam at Carrington

The acquisition of the German international coincides with a period when United seem to be gathering momentum.

Recent on-pitch successes feature qualifying for the European knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a victory in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

In the transfer market, the winter break has seen additional business:

  1. The signing of Sweden defender Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japan midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, who has become popular figure since arriving in 2023.

On the midfielder's new deal, a senior figure commented: “Miyazawa is now a vital component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability allows her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”

Lundkvist, who has arrived from a side from the NWSL, added: “You can sense how much the club have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and performing in the Champions League.”
